Ode to Poetry

Thanks to a request from my sister I am having a lash at writing poetry. Never really done it before – not properly anyway. Last time I did it was probably the angst-ridden High School variety (like Julie suggested)

The poems have to be in specific styles. I really like the Haiku form and found that easy.

I posted on my fav forums to get some advice and got a few tips. The suggestion to flip the lines in the haiku was great – here it is:

SHINE IN THE DARKNESS
SLIDING UP THE MOON EXPLODES
INK BLACK WINTER NIGHT

Making the Iambic Pentameter is a bastard. Anybody can count the syllables but to get lines that make sense, tell a story and flow to a conclusion is difficult. I still don’t feel like it has rhythm but the meter is right. This is draft about #7 and counting

FOR THEY WHO FIND THIS SHORT ODE, PRINT SO SMALL
SHALL KNOW SO STARK THAT FATE LIVED ME THESE YEARS
AND SHARE WITH KIN MY LOVE FULL SEEN STAND TALL
MY LIFE, AND NOT JUST TIME PASSED SMALL END TEARS

I’ve got 2 more to write yet – will put them up here too
